Lazise

Lazise was founded by the ancient Romans. The current name of the city in fact derives from the Latin Lasitium, then Laceses, which means lake place. In the Middle Ages Lazise was an important commercial center, one of the richest in all of Lake Garda. Due to its strategic importance, the Emperor granted Lazise a special fishing right and a toll right. The historic center of Lazise is surrounded by the beautiful walls built by the Scaligeri in the century. XIV, from the fortress and the Scaligero Castle. During the domination of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, Lazise was an important commercial center. In the fourteenth century, the Venetians built the Venetian Dogana of Lazise, which was the checkpoint for goods entering and leaving the Venetian territory. Today Lazise is an elegant tourist center, full of restaurants, shops and attractions.
